Q. Is This Cheating?: I have been mostly happily married for 13 years. My husband and I get along really well, and I love him very much. That being said, he is not the most affectionate person anymore. We used to cuddle a lot when we were first married and I have told him how much I miss it. He says he doesn't enjoy it because it's too hot. He'll make an effort to snuggle while watching TV sometimes if I ask, but I can tell while we're doing it that he is counting the minutes until he can stop. About a month ago, I was having a very bad day at work and a male co-worker/friend told me I looked like I could use a hug. Prudie, I did need a hug and he gave me one and I started crying because I couldn't remember the last time I had received nonsexual affection from someone without begging. My co-worker asked why I was crying and when I told him he said he loved his wife very much, but she wasn't affectionate either and he knew exactly how I was feeling. Since that day we've been meeting in his or my office after work a couple of times a week to hug each other. And that's all we do?there is no groping or kissing or even talking going on, we just hold each other for five to 10 minutes and then we go home. I like having a hug buddy and I've found my relationship with my husband is actually getting stronger because I am not so needy for affection from him. Of course, I have not told him about hugging my co-worker and I'm sure if I did he'd be upset, but I don't feel like what I'm doing is cheating. Is it?

A: Ah, Hug Buddies! Forget whether this is cheating, I see the possibility for a fantastic franchise opportunity ahead. Unless you are married to someone who is insanely jealous over totally normal interactions with members of the opposite sex, a good rule of thumb about cheating is that if you wonder about the propriety of what you're doing it, and if you know your spouse would object, then you've entered dangerous territory. Additionally, your after-hours body contact at the office may be therapeutic for the two of you, but you have the makings of a Feydeau-esque farce when someone walks in to discuss the quarterly sales figures. Of course, if you decide to take the hugs off-premises, you know it won't be long before you realize neither of you get kissed very often by your spouses, and you'll add that to the repertoire. Then it will be short trip to horizontal affection and you two can be buddies of a more vernacular sort. The fact that you have found such release and comfort from your colleague's hug tells you what a trough your marriage has fallen into. Your husband's excuse for not touching you is that it's too hot. Unless you live in a tropical climate and the air-conditioner is broken, this explanation is absurd. You don't need to tell your husband about your hug buddy, although I think you need to let go of said buddy. You need to address something that's become a crisis in your marriage. Tell your husband you are withering from a lack of affection. It would be one thing if you married someone who couldn't stand touching you, but when you got together there was plenty of nonsexual touching. Say that if he won't go to a counselor with you, you'll go alone, because while you love him very much, you feel he's set you adrift.

Dear Prudence Live in New York: Prudie?s Toughest Question

Q. They Can Ask, but I Don't Want to Give All the Info!: I have a scar going across the right side of my face. It starts just beside my right eye and goes down to near the end of my nose. Now, after some cosmetic work, it's not terribly ugly or gnarly at all, but it is there. I do not mind so much having people ask me where it came from, I'd much rather they ask than be stared at. Unfortunately, the nature of my scar is tragic ... and it often causes a whole lot of awkwardness and even more probing questions, ones that I am less comfortable with. The scar came from my mother, who got drunk one night when I was 7 years old, and broke a wine glass across my face. Usually I say something like "Oh, a childhood injury," but more often than not that leads to the question "Now that's got to be a great story! What happened!?" Is there an explanation that I can give that won't give away too much info, but will make it clear the topic isn't up for discussion anymore?

A: Oh, my heart lurched when I read how this happened. I hope that your mother got the help she needed and spent the rest of her life trying to repair her relationship with you. This reminds me of Tina Fey's facial scar. She refused to talk about it for years, but finally the pressure got so great she explained that she was attacked by a stranger when she was a little girl. I can totally understand that your story is one you simply do not want to tell, except to those closest to you. You need be able to deflect people without going into details. I think this is one of those cases in which a little altering of the truth is perfectly justified. You can say something to the effect that when you were very little you were engaged in horse play and unfortunately a glass was nearby. Then if you're pressed you can close down the subject out by saying that the whole thing was a traumatic, bloody mess and you'd rather not relive it.

Q. Friend's Husband Implying the Worst: About six months ago, a family moved into the house next door. I became good friends with the mother, as we both have boys the same age and got to know each other as the kids played together. We were talking one afternoon about our pre-husband days, and I let slip I had dated girls in the past. She shrugged it off as no big deal, but her husband overheard and now apparently thinks I'm after his wife. He will make snide remarks to her implying that she is cheating on him with me, he gets defensive when she and I do normal friend things for each other, and I'm afraid of losing my friend to the pressure he's putting on her. Nothing untoward has ever happened, nor will it, and frankly we are both getting offended at his implications, but he brushes her off when she tries to explain or tell him how much it bothers her. I know he's the one with the problem, but is there some way I could seem less threatening without cutting all contact?

A: Let's see, to convince this guy that you're not going to steal away his wife, you could come on to him! It is amazing how when insecure people see a threat to their marriage they manage to turn themselves into the most unappealing partners possible. I wish that instead of trying to mollify him, that you and your friend would start slowly rubbing sun block on each other or tenderly painting each other's toenails. But you're right, that your friend is married to this guy is her problem and there's nothing you can do. So just be your friendly, normal self. But do prepared that your friend starts getting busy with activities or arranging other play dates for her son to which yours is not invited. It may be that distancing herself from you will be a concession she feels it is necessary to make in order to mollify the jerk she married.

Q. Heartbreak, USA: I am considering having a child with my married ex-boyfriend. We recently reconnected and have spent time together, without things going too far. I still love him and he claims he never stopped loving me. After our breakup I cut all ties, but knew of the marriage through mutual friends. After seven years, he sought me out. It was great catching up with him because I really missed our friendship. I don't want to cause issues in his current relationship. However, my clock is ticking and he is the only man I've ever considered being a parent with. I'm getting older and I'm in a great place with my career and finances. I date, but no one seriously. I want to start a family, and I know my ex will be a great dad. If he agrees to start a family with me, I am even willing to keep the baby's paternity a secret. I know this is inappropriate, but it doesn't necessarily feel "wrong." How out of line would it be to bring this up with him?

After the last Assembly election, First Minister Peter Robinson said Mr Wilson would stay in the position for two years - a period which has now ended.

UTV's Political Editor Ken Reid said an announcement is on the cards sometime soon.

"There's no surprise really," he said. "I would expect that at the end of the term or end of July that Sammy Wilson will step aside as Finance Minister and Strangford MLA Simon Hamilton will take over that position.

"It's no coincidence that Simon Hamilton has been working with Sammy Wilson so he's ready to take over the reins and take up that position.

"I think people would acknowledge that Sammy Wilson has been a very effective Finance Minister, but Simon Hamilton has had time to learn the job.

"His style is very different - I'm sure we won't get the fireworks in the Chamber and so forth but I think that the DUP and Peter Robinson in particular will fell that Simon Hamilton will make a very good Minister. And of course, Sammy Wilson is also an MP.

"It will be very interesting to see what he does. Is his main preference Stormont or Westminster? And it doesn't rule out Sammy Wilson in the future becoming a Minister again. He was in Environment before."

Mr Wilson was asked about his future during an interview on UTV Live.

He said: "I don't know, that is entirely for the First Minister, he makes decisions about ministers. I am quite happy doing the job up to the time he makes the decision to change me."

MillerAP

Bears tight end Gabe Miller will miss the first four games of the regular season due to a suspension ? if he makes the team.? In his effort to remain in the good graces of the team he?s trying to make, Miller has issued a statement through said team.

?I would like to apologize to the entire Bears organization as well as our fans for taking a substance during the offseason that is prohibited by the NFL without a medical exemption,? Miller said.? ?While it was an isolated incident, I regret the poor judgment I showed and accept full responsibility for this mistake along with the punishment that comes with it.? In the meantime I will continue to work hard and contribute in any way I can.? I look forward to having the opportunity to make this up to the people that I have disappointed.?

Miller?s statement highlights one of the primary problems with the NFL?s policy regarding performance-enhancing substances.? With the NFL and its teams unable to elaborate on the reasons for the suspension, the player can say whatever he wants.? And so the player will be tempted to choose the path that avoids the stigma that comes from the perception of being a juicer.

Steroids?? Stigma.? Masking agents?? Stigma?

Really, when was the last time a player admitted that he was caught taking steroids?? Even Texans linebacker Brian Cushing, who tested positive for a hormone taken while taking steroids, came up with an alternative explanation to an admission of steroids use.? Former NFL linebacker/defensive end Shawne Merriman, who tested positive for steroids, insisted he had taken a spiked supplement.

Whether it?s the truth or it isn?t, Miller?s explanation points to something other than steroids.? By invoking the term ?medical exemption,? the violation can be viewed not as cheating but as a clerical.

It also can be interpreted as a strong hint that the substance was Adderall, a prescription medication that more and more players seem to be taking.? Or testing positive for taking.? Or claiming they tested positive for taking when in reality they were taking something else.

Regardless, Miller violated the policy, which technically is titled the policy on ?anabolic steroids and related substances.?? The league and the NFLPA have identified the substances on the list, and it?s presumed that the substances on the list enhance performance.

So regardless of what the player says, a positive test for a substance on the banned list is a violation, and a violation means there was cheating.? Thus, every suspension should have the same stigma as a steroids suspension, because the NFL and the NFLPA have agreed that the consequences for taking any of the prohibited substances is the same.

She hated her handwriting. The letters collided with one another in an awkward script that was neither cursive nor print, but she supposed it would have to do; the words had needed to be written. Her chest ached a little as she read them over, again and again. The realization they spelled out was one she?d left buried beneath so many years and too much distance, but it burned now with a decade?s stored energy of denial, and filled her with an ineffable longing that welcomed detached numbness? slow tide.

Each word was chosen with care, written as though she spoke to him, but intended for herself. He would never read it, of course ? no one would. She could claim she wanted to avoid disrupting his life with unpleasant memories or complicated emotions, but the truth was she feared what he would say in the astronomically unlikely event of his response; even no response was better than knowing he felt the same. At least in ignorance she could hide in the warm glow of what was without any distress over what still could be.

The box was prepared, simple, but durable, with a sturdy clasp at the front just big enough for an equally sturdy lock. She couldn?t bring herself to burn the words she?d taken such pains to find, but there were no other eyes qualified to read them, so the only logical conclusion she could reach was to lock them away and bury their prison. It wasn?t so different from what she?d done with the emotions before they brought the words, but now the words were out and it was no longer in her own heart they?d be trapped. That was enough, that was all she needed to carry on. It had to be.

She took a deep breath and exhaled slowly with the gravity of her secret. As soon as it was locked away, she could allow herself to forget, and by forgetting perhaps even heal. For the last time, she read the inelegant script of her own hand, and poured her aching heart into each word.

?I don?t know why, but I thought of you. And I don?t know what difference it would have made at the time to have understood my own feelings when we were still oceans apart . . . but it?s clear today that what I felt was love.

?You disappeared, and that was fair given I did the same, and I still don?t know if it was something I said, or something you decided on your own, but if there ever comes a day in some distant future where you look back and smile and wonder where I?ve gone, you know where to find me. My door is always open.

?I could spend the rest of my life waiting for you, but that wouldn?t be fair to anyone. So, instead I wish you well. I wish you happiness and love, and the greatest possible future life has to offer. I wish you laughter and smiles and the fulfillment of all your heart?s desires. I?ll look back on our time with a smile and not regret what never was or never will be.

?I know now it was love, but I suppose all things have their end.?

Signed with a quote and nothing more, addressed to no one with no date, the anonymous confession was delicately folded and placed inside the simple, but durable, box, through which sturdy clasp was latched an equally sturdy lock, all of which was gently nestled in the moist earth of a hole freshly dug. She knew the tree beneath which her words would always sleep, and offered it her thanks for the silent watch it would keep as the knot around her heart finally loosed its grip.

As each shovelful of dark soil fell upon the growing mound of her last regret, the missive?s final words echoed through her mind, an unfinished mantra and invitation to a future that would never be.

Good night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow,

That I shall bid you good night . . . .

Amazon's German workers called out for third day-long strike

FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Workers at Amazon.com's German operations were set to go on strike on Monday, the third day-long walkout in as many weeks, in a dispute over pay and benefits.

The Verdi union said on Monday it has asked workers to begin the strike at Amazon.com's logistics centers in Bad Hersfeld and Leipzig from 0400 GMT and 0430 GMT, respectively.

About 600 workers at the Bad Hersfeld facility and around 300 in Leipzig went on strike on May 14 and a second day-long strike followed later that month.

Amazon employs around 9,000 people in Germany and has come under fire from Verdi for refusing to implement a collective agreement on employment conditions that matches those of other mail order and retail firms.

Verdi is also pressing for higher basic pay and bigger supplements for night shifts.

In Leipzig, the union is calling for starting pay of 10.66 euros ($13.82) per hour, compared with 9.30 euros now. In Bad Hersfeld it wants the current pay rate of 9.83 euros an hour to be increased to 12.18 euros.

Amazon has said its rates are already at the upper end of what logistics companies pay in Germany. It said that it was willing to continue talks with Verdi but did not see a common basis for negotiations for now.
