Tourism Ministry will support development of new tourism spots in India: Dr K Chiranjeevi

Dr K Chiranjeevi, Minister of State with Independent Charge (I/C) for Tourism, Government of India, recently stated that his ministry would support initiatives to develop new tourism spots across Andhra Pradesh and the rest of India. Speaking at a conference hosted by Andhra Pradesh Real Estate Developers Association, he said Andhra Pradesh is rich with attractive spots, which could be developed as independent tourist destinations. Several spots in the coastal city of Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts of the state have the potential to be developed as tourist spots by developing necessary support infrastructure, according to a report by V Rishi Kumar in The Hindu Business Line.

The Minister said that given the potential for job creation in the tourism sector, more emphasis will be laid on its development. N Kiran Kumar Reddy, Chief Minister, Government of Andhra Pradesh, said Andhra Pradesh ranks number one in terms of overall tourist visitors in the country. However, most of the tourism is related to pilgrimage tourism. Therefore, the accent is on developing new destinations by encouraging private participation. Along with Hyderabad, which has already emerged as a destination for conferences and conventions, the Chief Minister said it is proposed to develop Visakhapatnam as another convention centre. With good connectivity, this will attract more conventions.
